Sound Familiar?
“I get all my work from word of mouth”
That's great - but even referrals Google you before they call. According to BrightLocal's 2025 research, 97% of consumers search online before contacting a local business. Without a website, you're invisible to the majority of potential customers - including the ones your mates are recommending you to.
“I can't afford a proper website”
A professional one-page website starts from £500 - less than the cost of a single emergency callout van repair. It's a one-off investment that generates enquiries for years. Our pricing guide breaks down every cost transparently, and our cost calculator lets you compare UK market averages.
“I tried Wix/Squarespace and it didn't work”
Template builders are fine for hobby projects, but they load slowly, limit your SEO control, and produce sites that look like every other tradesman's. A custom-built website optimised for local search is the difference between a digital business card and a lead generation machine.
“I don't have time to mess about with a website”
You shouldn't have to. We handle everything - design, content, build, launch. You give us your photos and tell us about your services. We do the rest. After launch, we handle updates so you can focus on the tools, not the tech.
What Does a Tradesman Website Need to Do?
A tradesman website has one job: turn a visitor into an enquiry. When someone searches "electrician Truro" and lands on your site, they are asking three questions, and your site should answer all three in about ten seconds.
- Do they do what I need? Your services should be clearly listed, not buried.
- Are they any good? Photos of real work and genuine testimonials answer this.
- How do I contact them? A phone number and contact form should be visible on every page.
The rest of this page covers what we build to answer them, and the design choices that matter most.
What's Included in Every Tradesman Website
Click-to-Call on Every Page
A prominent phone button that works on every device. When someone needs a plumber at 10pm, they tap once and you answer.
Real Project Photo Gallery
Show off your best work with a gallery built for impact. Before-and-after shots sell better than any sales pitch.
Google Business Profile Integration
Your website and Google listing working together. Reviews, maps, and opening hours all connected and consistent.
Mobile-First Design
Over 70% of trade searches happen on phones. Google uses mobile-first indexing, meaning your mobile site is what determines your rankings. Your site is built for mobile first, then scaled up for tablets and desktops.
Local SEO Foundations
Proper title tags, schema markup, and location-specific content so you rank for searches like "plumber near me" and "electrician in [your town]".
Accreditation Badges Display
Gas Safe, NICEIC, FENSA, FMB, TrustMark - your accreditations displayed prominently to build instant trust.
Design Choices That Turn Visitors Into Enquiries
Photos of your actual work
Stock photos of smiling people in hard hats fool nobody. Show the kitchen you fitted last month or the rewire you finished. Take photos in good natural light, keep the frame straight and tidy up first. Before-and-after pairs are especially convincing. For your best three to five projects, consider a professional photographer. See real builder website examples.
Testimonials that are specific
A vague review like "Great job, highly recommend" convinces nobody. A specific one works because it covers the things customers worry about: reliability, tidiness and sticking to the quote. For example, a review that says what was done, how long it took, and that the price matched the quote. Ask every happy customer for a Google review and show three or four on your site. BrightLocal's 2026 survey found 68% of consumers will only use a business with four or more stars.
Your phone number, everywhere
Put it in the header, not just the footer. Most trade enquiries come by phone, so on mobile make it a tap-to-call link. If you cannot answer during the day, say so: "On site? Text us and we will call you back this evening."
A clear service area
State where you work: "We cover Truro, Falmouth, Redruth and surrounding areas." It helps customers, and it helps Google understand where to show you.
Accreditations and trust signals
Display NICEIC, Gas Safe, CIPHE or any trade body logos prominently, near the top of the homepage. Mention public liability insurance too. Customers are letting you into their homes, so anything that reduces perceived risk helps.
Getting found: Google Business Profile, page titles and directories
A website is step one. Your Google Business Profile is free and arguably as important for local searches: set it up properly, add project photos regularly and collect reviews from every happy customer. Page titles should include your trade and town, such as "Plumber in Truro | Your Business Name", not "Welcome to Our Website". Keep your name, address and phone number identical across your website, Google profile and directories such as Yell, Checkatrade and MyBuilder, because inconsistency confuses Google. More in our local SEO guide.
Website mistakes trades make
- Stock photos instead of real work. It kills trust straight away.
- Burying the phone number. If people have to scroll to find it, many will not bother.
- Poor mobile experience. Most people searching for a tradesperson are on their phone and will hit back and call someone else.
- Listing services without locations. "Plumbing services" does not tell Google where you work.
- Never updating the site. Projects from years ago make a business look abandoned. Add a recent project regularly.
- No HTTPS. Browsers warn visitors that the site is "Not Secure".
Getting started this week
- Photograph your three best recent projects, before and after if possible.
- Ask three happy customers for specific written testimonials.
- Write a short paragraph on each service you offer and where you work.
- Claim your Google Business Profile if you have not already.
- Check your business is listed on Checkatrade, MyBuilder and Yell with consistent details.
With those ready, a website is quick to build. See our pricing or get in touch.

How much does a tradesman website cost?
A professional one-page website for tradesmen starts from £500. This covers everything you need: mobile-friendly design, contact form, click-to-call, and basic SEO. A multi-page site with a gallery, service pages, and local SEO starts from £1,500. These are one-off investments - no monthly platform fees.
How long does it take to build a tradesman website?
A one-page website takes one to two weeks from brief to launch. A multi-page business website takes two to four weeks. The main thing that slows projects down is content - having your photos, testimonials, and service details ready before we start cuts the timeline significantly.
Do I need more than one page?
It depends on your goals. A one-page site is perfect for sole traders who want a professional online presence with contact details and a summary of services. If you want to rank for multiple services or areas (e.g. "plumber in Truro" and "boiler installation Cornwall"), you’ll need separate pages for each - that’s where a multi-page site pays for itself.
Will my website work on mobile phones?
Every website we build is mobile-first. Over 70% of people searching for tradesmen do so on their phones - often in a hurry. Your site will load fast, have a prominent click-to-call button, and work perfectly on any screen size. We test on real devices before launch.
Do you include SEO with the website?
Yes. Every website we build includes on-page SEO as standard: proper title tags, meta descriptions, heading structure, image optimisation, schema markup, and fast loading times. We also set up your Google Business Profile integration. For ongoing SEO and content marketing, we offer separate monthly packages.
What if I already have a website?
We can rebuild or redesign your existing site. Many tradesmen come to us after a bad experience with a template builder or a cheap freelancer. We’ll audit what you have, keep what works (like your domain and any Google authority you’ve built), and replace what doesn’t. You won’t lose any SEO ground in the process.
Do I need a website if I get all my work through word of mouth?
Yes. Even when people get a personal recommendation, most still search online before making contact. If they search your name and find nothing, you lose credibility before you have spoken to them. A website backs up the recommendation and gives people confidence to pick up the phone.
Should I put my prices on my trade website?
For standard services with predictable costs (a boiler service, an EICR, an annual gas check), showing prices builds trust and filters out time-wasters. For bespoke work such as extensions or rewiring, use ranges or "from" prices. Either way, address pricing openly, because customers comparing tradespeople online expect some transparency.
Can I use my Facebook page instead of a website?
Facebook is useful for sharing updates and reviews, but you do not control it, and algorithm changes can cut your visibility overnight. Use it alongside your website, not instead of it.
